Lund Humphries Artists at the RA Summer Exhibition 2024
There are a couple of weeks left to visit the RA's Summer Exhibition (until 18 August), so we've picked out some Lund Humphries highlights in this year's exhibition:
RA Summer Exhibition Work 439 - JACOB'S LADDER
Huxley's early interest in abstraction chimed with the dynamism that pulsed through London's art scene in the 1960s. Recognised as a new talent by pioneering curator Bryan Robertson, Huxley enjoyed early success in exhibitions including The New Generation, which opened at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1964. Building from this positive critical reception, and immersing himself in the vibrant artistic communities of London and New York, Huxley built a career characterised by an instinct to push boundaries and find new ways to advance the language of abstract painting.
Huxley's fascinating artistic life, expertly surveyed by Jeremy Lewison, is at last given the attention that it deserves in this, the first monograph on the artist...

Line and space are central to Hall's work, with the artist creating highly refined two- and three-dimensional works that deploy a range of geometrical forms. The works he makes are always meticulous and measured, whilst offering intuitive visual conundrums that encourage looking and thinking.
Unpicking the complexities of Hall's work and its display both indoors and outdoors, author Jon Wood provides the definitive narrative of one of Britain's most accomplished sculptors working today...

Hughie O’Donoghue (b. 1953) explores themes of universal human experience, ideas of truth and the relationship between memory and identity. Often standing apart from his contemporaries in the scale and ambition of his paintings, O’Donoghue’s work addresses the need to learn the lessons and complexities of recent history through the lens of the often overlooked and anonymous individual.
Beautifully illustrated, encompassing four decades of work, this major publication is the broadest survey of the artist to date...

Joe Tilson RA (1928-2023) was one of the great figures in post-war British art and a pivotal artist of the British Pop Art movement during the 1960s. Astonishingly, no general monograph documenting all phases of Tilson’s prolific production has ever been published.
This book remedies this through a series of insightful chapters, exploring each decade of the artist’s career, written by Marco Livingstone, a respected authority on British contemporary art...

Rana Begum RA (b.1977) is an artist known for her wide ranging works, from the intimate to the monumental. Using a variety of materials and exploring the use of light, she blurs the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, design and painting to create works that are both playful and ambiguous.
This comprehensive monograph expands on previous writings to investigate the ideas behind the artist's varied use of materials, including wood, metal, ready-made industrial components and MDF...

Anderson’s painting style is notable for the ease with which he slips between figuration and abstraction, playing with the tropes of earlier landscape traditions and 20th-century abstraction. His paintings of barbershop interiors, country tennis clubs and tropical roadsides teem with rich brushwork and multitudes of decorative patterns or architectural features, at once obscuring and adding to underlying ruminations on identity and place.
Drawing on interviews with the artist, Michael J. Prokopow offers a critical assessment of Hurvin Anderson’s painting practice to date that will be enlightening for all students, dealers and collectors of contemporary painting...

Alison Wilding RA (b.1948) is one of Britain's foremost sculptors. Known for her use of contrasting materials and often pairing forms in precarious juxtapositions and balancing acts, recent works combine string, steel and hair, mirrored glass, silicone rubber, alabaster, sand and painted foam.
Tracing the trajectory of her artistic evolution, this original publication provides the first critical survey of Wilding's rich career...

Rose Wylie RA (b.1934) trained as an artist in the 1950s, but it was her re-engagement with painting in the early 1980s, after a period spent raising a family, that marked the beginning of a remarkable career that continues to evolve and impress.
This monograph, the first of its kind, follows Wylie's fascinating artistic journey, celebrating her achievements while also examining her current practice...
